2017 BetAmerica Daytona550 Participant - Oaks Maddy

Post Position #1
OAKS MADDY
Female | Pat C Clement-Oaks Gem Brandy | Record: 56/20-5-8-4
Kennel: Gloria Dorsey Kennel Owner: Mick Hymes

Oaks Maddy will making her sixth stakes final in the BetAmerica Daytona 550. She became the field's only automatic qualifier after taking down the "win and you're in" King vs. Queen Classic at Southland Park Gaming & Racing, which capped off a stellar 2016 campaign The Arkansas-bred daughter of Pat C Clement races for owner Mick Hymes and longtime kennel operator Gloria Dorsey. Brett Goucher, an early advocate and yearly sponsor of the Daytona 550, and Bill Nihan are the champ's conditioners. The rail-running early speedster began her career at the Palm Beach Kennel Club with Rader Racing but the lucrative Arkansas-bred incentive program quickly lured her to West Memphis. The black female added the $100,000 Arkansas-Bred Sprint Championship in October after impressively going unscathed in the preliminaries. The very next weekend Maddy received the only at large bid to the King vs. Queen Classic - the other finalists were the top four finishers from the Festival of Stakes Male and Female Darby Henry Sprint Divisions. She would not disappoint, firing away from a favored inside post to an easy victory. Maddy is the easily the top performer in her immediate female family but dig a little deeper and you'll find her tail line traces back to Dia's Stormy Day , one of, if not the premier damlines in American racing. Sire Pat C Clement will be represented for the second time in as many years. Clement's son, Pat C Short Cut, was fourth in last year's BetAmerica Daytona550. Oaks Maddy has competed against the best of racing on a weekly basis this year while at Southland and she could go to post as the favorite on the strength of her battle tested resume.

2017 BetAmerica Daytona550 Participant - Gt's Gin N Juice

Post Position #2
GT’S GIN N JUICE
Female | Kiowa Mon Manny-Lee Talia | Record: 45/15-9-6-4
Kennel: Abernathy Kennel Owner: Thomas Wayne Cunningham

Thomas Wayne Cunningham should probably stop while he's ahead. New to greyhound ownership, BetAmerica Daytona 550 invitee, Gt's Gin N Juice is his very first foray into the Sport of Queens. His introduction has immediately catapulted him to the upper realm in which many can only dream about. And then there's the story of Gin and Juice's breeder. To catch lightning in a bottle once is one thing, but to do it twice is obvious genius. Robert Gurley, a small time greyhound aficionado, has now bred a second BetAmerica Daytona 550 invitee to go along with 2014 Finalist Lee Opera. This is the greyhound racing equivalent to Mid-major Butler reaching the Final Four in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in consecutive years not long ago. Gt's Gin N Juice is closely related to Orange Park legend Lee Opera as her dam Lee Talia is a half-sister to Lee Devin, the dam of the 2014 Finalist. The flag bearer of historic Derby Lane, Gt's Gin N Juice will have big shoes to fill as the St. Pete oval was represented the last two years by Husker Magic, the 2014 champ and 2015 runner-up. Originally thought of as a distance hound, the daughter of Kiowa Mon Manny primarily raced at 660 yards for better than a year before the switch to the sprint became her course of choice in 2016. It wasn't until after a return from a three month break during the summer that she really came into her own. Gin N Juice made her re-appearance by putting together back to back wins in August but would go winless during September while finishing second five consecutive times during one stretch, while also making the finals of the Fall Sprint Championship- her second stake final. Gt's Gin N Juice would go on to own October and it was in this month that she would stamp her ticket to Daytona by winning eight in a row- never an easy feat at America's oldest and most prestigious venue. The talented red female has shown versatility and occasional box speed but is known for her stamina and late kick while preferring an outside route. Even though she shares some physical resemblance to her predecessor Husker Magic, her running style couldn't be more different- but there may be enough talent to achieve the same result.

2017 BetAmerica Daytona550 Participant - Kinda Cruel Red

Post Position #3
KINDA CRUEL RED
Male | Bella Infrared - Cruel To Be Kind | Record: 36/18-7-4-1
Kennel: Jacobs Racing LLC Owner: Edward Piziak, Jr.

Bella Infrared was conceivably racing's brightest star of the last decade and he's now making his mark as a competent and in demand stud dog of fast and determined greyhounds. Kinda Cruel Red shares some resemblance to his sire, albeit in a slightly smaller, more compact version. He has a long way to go to accomplish as much as Infrared once did, but is attempting his best impression of his famous father. Kinda Cruel Red is a member of a highly successful litter that has produced three other stakes performers from seven pups. Littermate, Wayne Cleary, showed considerable promise as a multiple AA winner at Wheeling before an early and untimely injury. Bred by Monte Jacobs and owned by Edward Piziak, Jr., Kinda Cruel Red's career got off to a flying start a little more than a year ago at Palm Beach. He won his first grade A in just his eighth start and would have been the favorite to win 2015 Dick Andrews Futurity, but unfortunately an ailment would sideline him just before the semi-finals. In the spring of this year, Red was shipped north to Wheeling to compete for bigger purses. The rise in competition did little to deter the speedster as he would win six in a row during the summer, never a small feat at Wheeling. Recently he's taken five of six, all of said triumphs coming in top grade. Kinda Cruel Red's best attribute may be his intrepid will and tenacity. Whether on the lead or coming from off the pace, he can rarely be counted out. His big heart allows him versatility. No doubt he'll make his presence known on the night of the 550.

2017 BetAmerica Daytona550 Participant - Kentucky Kat

Post Position #4
KENTUCKY KAT
Female | Pat C Clement-Kentucky Jude | Record: 42/23-8-1-1
Kennel: Cal Holland Kennel Owner: C. Don Godby

It has been said that it is all about early speed when it comes to stake racing. Well if that is truly the case, then Kentucky Kat is in “purrfect” position to capture the national championship in the BetAmerica Daytona 550. Kat has good box speed and a nice rush to the first turn, and once on top she is tough to catch. She is not all about early speed, though. A look at her race lines show the daughter of Pat C Clement can also run from behind. Kat is not a stranger to prestigious stakes racing. She won the Weaver Memorial, was second in the Inaugural and a finalist in the Sprint Classic, all at Derby Lane. After taking a hard hit and falling in the first round of the Fall Sprint Stakes, she was rested for three months. The Cal Holland standout returned to the track in December and has won six of her eight starts, and recorded the season’s best time of 30.09. Although Kat can win from on the lead or from behind, she will probably need to be up front early if she wants to give Derby Lane their second national champion. Her ability to break well and rush quickly to the turn will give her a chance to do just that …and make Cal Holland’s second trip to the BetAmerica Daytona 550 a memorable one.

2017 BetAmerica Daytona550 Participant - Seldom Told

Post Position #5
SELDOM TOLD Male Trent Lee-Need A Date
Male | Trent Lee | Record: 40/31-3-0-3
Kennel: DQ Williams Kennel Owner: Sharon L. Williams

The story of Seldom Told is not yet complete. The 2015 All-American will be back in Daytona on January 21, in attempt to add a national championship to his impressive resume. The powerful 84-pound Seldom Told has won a remarkable 78% of his starts in 2016 for the DQ Williams Kennel. He has dominated the competition at Orange Park in the 5/16 distance, recording the five fastest times there this year. Seldom Told also showed his versatility by moving to the 3/8 distance in October. He entered the bestbet Orange Park Derby and proceeded to win it. Told has not lost a race since returning to the sprint course, and currently is on a six race winning streak. Earlier this year at the BetAmerica Daytona 550, Seldom Told was distracted in the first turn, and really never got the chance to run his race. It should be a different story in 2017, as the DQ Williams Kennel and owner Sharon Williams go for back-to-back national championships.

2017 BetAmerica Daytona550 Participant - Rf River

Post Position #6
RF RIVER
Female | KC and ALL-AF Nala | Record: 29/13-4-3-3
Kennel: Superior Kennel Owner: Alan Hill or Joni Recinos

Iowa will once again be represented in the BetAmerica Daytona 550, this time by the Iowa Breeders Cup Champion RF River. Boc's John Luke was third in 2014 and Boc's Hank Jr. was a 2015 invitee before injury kept him out. In just one brief season of racing, this 68 lb. female of former Iowa standout and leading sire KC And All went from maiden to multiple stakes performer in less than twenty five starts. She captured America's single richest stakes event in late October when taking the IBC crown. Superior Kennel handles Rf River and it was only a matter of time before this operation landed a spot in the National Championship. They have been a perennial top Kennel on the Dubuque (IA) - Mardi Gras (FL) circuit for a number of consecutive years. Alan Hill and Joni Recinos are the proud owners. The big white and red female is a product of one of the most popular and well producing dam-lines in Alive and Well. Chasin the Richs, Superior Product, and USS Treasure are a few that were all yielded from this female family. Rf River will be the least experienced in the BetAmerica Daytona550 as she broke her maiden in late May. However, this runner that possesses a powerful late kick very well may be in the best form. Since the close of the Dubuque season, she has moved to Mardi Gras, easily winning each of four contests to extend her streak to seven victories while thriving in South Florida. The soon to be two year-old is improving at the right time and it's quite possible that we haven't seen the best of her just yet.

2017 BetAmerica Daytona550 Participant - Martha Maccallum

Post Position #7
MARTHA MACCALLUM
Female | Flying Westover - Johara | Record: 29/22-2-1-2
Kennel: Brindle Kennel Owner: Anthony Napolitano Jr.

The very special Martha Maccallum has burst onto the scene in a major way; a fleeting 24 victories from just 32 starts while carrying maybe the biggest upside of any BetAmerica Daytona550 invitee. Last year's South Florida representative for the 550, Red Utopian, retired in the summer. In her absence, Martha Maccallum has taken right where the 2015 All-American left off with the same persistent domination of her rivals. The daughter of Flying Westover's credentials include a pair of six race win streaks to go along with a pair of three race win streaks. She set the season's best time at Flagler with a clocking of 30.42 in August and it stuck the remainder of the meet. The circuit switched to Naples in November and she started the stand with a small stake victory in the Inaugural which kick started a current seven for eight run. She has enough speed to put herself in the race early by the first turn. Furthermore, she's often seen running away from her challengers at the end, increasing her lead with each stride as she crosses the wire. She is owned by her breeder Anthony Napolitano, Jr. and campaigned by Richard Brindle's kennel, which handles dogs at Naples, Flagler and Palm Beach. Napolitano and Brindle, now cohorts, were once staples in the New England racing community, even competitors with bookings at the same tracks. Racing in the area once had a rich culture and major following, but sadly come to end when both Lincoln Park (RI) and Raynham Park (MA) would drop the curtain on live racing in 2009. Many dog men and women involved moved on to continue in the business. A victory by Martha Maccallum in the 550 would be the first for connections with not only ties, but roots to the former illustrious and historic New England racing circuit. Early on Martha Maccallum is showing the signs of being a once in a lifetime greyhound. At this point the sky is the limit, she turned two years of age on the first day of December. While some of the other invitees may simply be trying to hold on to form after a long campaign, she's still progressing with each start. The talent is there but will it be enough to overcome the experience that some of the other greyhounds have? Find on out on January 21, 2017.

2017 BetAmerica Daytona550 Participant - JD Accomplice

Post Position #8
JD ACCOMPLICE
Female | JD Titanium-Allisonracinteam | Record: 49/25-10-6-2
Kennel: Brindle Kennel Owner: Jon D. Stidham

JD Accomplice broke her maiden at Iowa Greyhound Park in mid-July and was running Grade A in less than 6 weeks. She quickly got a taste of stakes racing, competing in both the Iowa Greyhound Park Future Stars and the Iowa Breeders Cup. She was the betting favorite in the finals of the Future Stars and finished third. Accomplice won three of four starts in the qualifying rounds of the Breeders Cup, but finished fifth in the finals… one of only three career starts in which she missed the superfecta. At first glance, her breeding might seem modest. But a closer look shows her parents JD Titanium and Allisonracingteam each won the King and Queen Stakes at Dubuque, and her sire has been a strong producer in limited breedings.JD Accomplice may not possess consistent box speed, but she does possess speed, smarts and determination, all of which makes her one of the up and coming stars of our sport. She likes the mid-track, and can win from on the lead or off the pace. Although Accomplice may prefer an outside box, she has proven she can win from any box. JD Accomplice will travel to Daytona from the Mardi Gras track where she has been very impressive. The 62 pound female is the youngest star in the BetAmerica Daytona 550, but that may be to her benefit, as she seems to be maturing and peaking at the right time. It would not be surprising to see her first stakes win be the biggest prize of all…the national championship title.
